Fine quality rare late C19th Qing Dynasty Chinese hardwood Scholar''s table or stand in hongmu.
For use on a larger scholar''s as a small table for placements of scholar''s items and precious objects , such as an ink-stone , brush pot, wrist-rest, items of jade etc.. The objects were in a sense the luxury items of their time , but rather than wealth they represented the physical embodiment of the scholars intellectual curiosity and aesthetic taste.
The rectangular low stand or table with a ''floating'' panel top and with inset panelled ends . The open-work frieze with ruyi motif carvings (symbolic of good fortune) and ''endless knot'' style frets to the corners. Of free-standing form , raised upon square legs with a shaped foot .
In excellent original condition, has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
