Description

Fine quality rare late C19th Qing Dynasty Chinese hardwood Scholar's table or stand in hongmu.

For use on a larger scholar's as a small table for placements of scholar's items and precious objects , such as an ink-stone , brush pot, wrist-rest, items of jade etc.. The objects were in a sense the luxury items of their time , but rather than wealth they represented the physical embodiment of the scholars intellectual curiosity and aesthetic taste.

The rectangular low stand or table with a 'floating' panel top and with inset panelled ends . The open-work frieze with ruyi motif carvings (symbolic of good fortune) and 'endless knot' style frets to the corners. Of free-standing form , raised upon square legs with a shaped foot .

In excellent original condition, has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
