Antique English Leather Stationery Box - Handsome British Lion Mount

Description

A really superb example of a Victorian stationery box dating to around 1890 clad in black leather with gold embossed line decoration to the front back and lid.

There is an exquisite and very regal gilded brass British Lion mounted on the front of the lid, very unusual and quite wonderful. There is a brass shield shaped escutcheon to the front, and the box comes with the original working tasseled key.

The interior is totally original with eight compartments, the widest measuring 8". The interior of the lid retains the original black silk moire or taffeta, in excellent condition.

A wonderful box in remarkable condition for it's 120 years. Measurements: 8 3/4" x 4 3/8" x 6 3/4" to the top of the lid.
