A beautiful pair of Japanese Meiji period Satsuma vases of bulbous form, each beautifully decorated around the body with a hive of activity depicting birds flying amongst Chrysanthemums hunting spiders, as the spiders capture insects in their webs. Each vase is finished with intricate gilt borderwork up the neck and though there is no signature the vases are almost certainly by Taizan, some expected minor wear to the gilding otherwise both are in excellent condition standing 11 inches tall.
