Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1700s.
The 8-day 5-pillar movement, typical of the period, strikes hours via the internal countwheel, whilst the dial features subsidiary seconds; date aperture; 'ringed' decoration to the winding holes; cherub's head spandrels and ornate blued steel hands. Engraved signature to the chapter-ring. 84ins tall.

Christopher Gould (fl pre-1682 to 1718), was a highly regarded maker, who was admitted as a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1682. He was responsible for a number of very fine Bracket and Longcase clocks, some of which were in the famed Wetherfield Collection. He died in 1718.
