Of very good proportions the rectangular top has a Royal blue gilt tooled leather writing surface with a kingwood crossband and gilt brass moulded edge, having ormolu mounts to each corner above three ormolu bound solid oak lined frieze drawers.

The central drawer with an ornate gilt ormolu cast bacchic mask surrounded by foliate scrollwork and banding having two flanking drawers both with a secret sprung locking system. Raised on cabriole legs having outstanding gilt ormolu acanthus framed figural espagnolettes to the knees terminating in acanthus wrapped sabots.

Each side having an gilt ormolu cast bacchic mask of Zeus the Greek God surround by banding. This bureau plat is completely free standing as the back is mirrored to the front enabling the desk to stand freely within the room / study.

In excellent condition having been finely restored using traditional methods this very imposing bureau plat will make a fine addition and talking piece to any home.
To the underside of the drawer a Battle Abbey inventory label is attached with the number 1963 and brass stamped inventory plaque inside the drawer with the number 60. Very good quality and a rare piece of furniture with excellent provenance that is earlier than most seen on offer.
