P.j.mene: A Large French Animalier Bronze

19th century
Description

P.J.MENE: A good quality and large 19th century BRONZE SCULPTURE of a Labrador-type retriever as she awaits the order from her owner to retrieve the prey.

Beautifully modelled as one would expect from this leading French "animalier" artist, she is signed by the artist within the integral bronze base. 12ins long; 9.5ins high; 4.5ins deep. (30.5 x 24 x 11.5cms)

** *PIERRE JULES MENE (1810-1879), a leading member of the French 'animalier' movement, started work with his father, a metal turner, and by 1837 he was casting his own sculptures. He enjoyed great success as a sculptor and the quality of his work is comparable to the great Barye.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
