Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
An impressive large size the slots on the top are all labelled with silver metal mounts with red enamel lettering - " Letters Received " , " Letters Answered ", " Letters Unanswered ", " Bills Paid ", and finally " Bills Unpaid ".
The box is made from solid English Oak and retains it's original hinges and top quality brass "Bramar" lock, a sign of a top notch box and yes, a working key (which requires a push and turn as per all Bramar locks).
Superb condition with the original dividers intact on the inside, some cracking to the red lettering, this is quite normal and is quite often missing altogether - a fabulous and impressive piece measuring 13 1/4" x 9 5/8" x 6 1/4" tall.
