Victorian Camphorwood Brass Bound Campaign Chest

19th century
Description

Victorian camphorwood brass bound campaign chest

This Victorian camphorwood brass bound campaign chest would have been made in the East for a British Officer to use on Campaign in India, the North West Frontier or even the Chinese campaign.

This military chest is made of solid camphorwood, a timber that gives off a lovely perfume ,but it was also fantastic for use in the East as it kept the insects and moths away from damaging the contents.

Made in 2 parts so that this could be transported easily on wagons or by mules.

The brass corners were not just for decoration, but to give the chest strength during the rigors of being moved.

The upper section consisting of a full length top drawer that is fitted a fall down front, to reveal a full writing desk with interior drawers and pigeon holes.

Under the secretaire drawer a further 2 drawers.

The bottom section with 3 graduated drawers and standing on the original turned feet.

If only this could talk, imagine the tales it could tell!!
