Antique Telescope, Tripod, 3" Refractor, Terrestrial Astronomical T Cooke & Sons

1900 - 1920
Description

This is an antique telescope on tripod, a three inch tapered refractor for terrestrial or astronomical use, probably originally for military use and dating to circa 1900-1915.

Raised on an oak tripod with anti-glare, stealth paint mount, this impressive three inch refractor carries the name of T. Cooke & Sons Ltd of London & York, a respected name synonymous with high quality optical instruments.

The optics are in good order with an achromatic object lens offering a crisp, bright and sharp image. The single draw tube extends smoothly and is fine focused with the knurled wheel moving the rack and pinion adjustment mounted internally to the main tube.

The tubes are complete with lens cap and sliding eye cover with later leather and paint finish in good order throughout.

A super example and a handsome instrument, comfortable to use at any height up to a standing position. Delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.

Dimensions:

Max Drawn Length: 118cm (46.5'')

Objective Glass Diameter: 7.5cm (3'')

Height to Horizontal: 157cm (61.75'')

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
