Antique Silver Triple Date Pocket Watch, Sandoz-boucherin

An antique silver “quantième variés” calendar pocket watch by Adamir Sandoz and Auguste Meylan (A Sandoz-Boucherin).

The Meylan family is one of the oldest watchmaking dynasties in Switzerland, believed to have been started in 1670 by Moise Meylan in Le Lieu, Vallée de Joux

In 1890, Adamir Sandoz and Auguste Meylan became business partners and the company A Sandoz-Boucherin was formed in 1894, although it seems the company was short lived. They specialised in chronographs, date watches, double hour watches, etc.

This particular watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is stamped with the brevet number 1712 which relates to an 1889 patent for calendar clocks and watches in the name of Sandoz and Meylan. The movement is working nicely.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The case is 935 silver and there are Swiss hallmarks inside both of the case backs. There is some unevenness to the case commensurate with the age of the watch.

The later acrylic lens is in good condition.

The enamel dial has subsidiary dials for day, date and month, together with moonphase at 6 o'clock. Beautifully detailed with blue numbers, small acorns picked out in gold and a gold outer decorative border. The hour hand is a little out of shape. There should be a partial cover over the moonphase but this has been removed at some point.
