Country Homes Antiques Stirling has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
A beautiful large signed oil by John Burr the Edinburgh born painter of children and genre scenes.
Two young girls watch the naughty boy as he heads back through the school gates. The work dates to around 1870 and is in ready to hang condition.

John Burr was the brother of Alexander Holenlode Burr. He studied at the Trustees’ Academy in Edinburgh where he worked for a time before going to live in London. He exhibited in London at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, the Royal Society of British Artists on Suffolk Street, the Society of Painters in Watercolours and the Grafton Gallery until 1892. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and an associate member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours.
