Antique Edwardian Solid Silver Wheelbarrow Stamp Box / Case

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

A marvellous example of Edwardian whimsy! A solid sterling silver stamp box or case, designed as a wheelbarrow, complete with moving wheel.

Clearly hallmarked on the side for Birmingham 1908, with the maker''s mark for Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd and a patent number for the design. The lid is spring-loaded - there is a little movement in the hinge but not enough to stop it closing soundly. The gilding inside is in excellent condition, which I''m struggling to photograph because the lid keeps closing. The inside cover, which is removable, features a green half penny stamp stuck to some hardboard.
