As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this large Meiji period (1868-1912) Ivory & Shibayama lidded Tusk vase on its original pierced and rotating hardwood stand, the thick cut hand picked Tusk section has been exquisitely onlaid in the Shibayama style, the front depicts a charming Parrot upon his perch stood aside a woven Ikebana basket, the basket displaying sprays of Prunus blossom and an array of native flora, to the rear the artist has carved a lakeside setting with Butterflies in flight above a further floral display, the tusk is surmounted with a finely carved Lion Okimono upon its metal lined inset lid, the lid appears signed to the underside probably by the carver, the tusk signed to a tablet on its side, undoubtedly the signature of the Shibayama artist, we have had numerous similar examples of Tusk vases on stands, this will rank as one of the nicer subjects and certainly the finest condition imaginable , all to often these items have suff...
