Antique French Red Glass Pocket Watch Box C.1890

Description

A pretty antique French pocket watch box, made from a deep red glass and lined with a rich Burgundy velvet with an original thick bevelled glass lid.

The fittings including the three pierced or reticulated feet are made from gilded brass. Once the lid is opened, a floating plinth is revealed with a gilded beaded border which is where the pocket watch would hang from the hook at the top, the diameter of the velvet pad is approximately 1 1/2" made for a smaller watch.

Dating to the late nineteenth century, it remains in superb condition measuring 2 1/2" max x 3 1/2" max x 3" tall at rear.
