Magnificent English Papier Mache Tray - Hand Painted, Venice

Description

Not often one comes across a superb piece like this English tray dating to around 1840 and in exquisite condition.

Made from Papier or Paper Mache with wonderful and bright gilded scroll decoration surrounding a beautifully executed central hand painted panel. The scene on it is of the Venetian Lagoon and the building in the background is Santa Maria Della Salute - one of the premier Venetian Baroque architectural works by Baldassare Longhena.

The handles are securely affixed and simply beautiful and totally untouched jn gilt bronze.

One replacement nut on the underside affixing the handle, mentioned purely for accuracy, normal all over age crazing.

Excellent condition measuring 13" (inc. handles) x 9 1/4".
