18th Century Dutch Walnut & Oak Chest C.1780

18th century
Description

This stunning & finest quality chest was made in around 1780.

The walnut quarter veneered oversailing top above three long drawers and a lower cushion moulded drawer. The chest retains its original gilded solid brass handles and escutcheons with rams masks and swags. The carcase is oak with a thickly cut full oak lining to the heavy drawers. All of the drawers open and close whisper smooth with deep shaped drawer front and clean robust oak lined interiors.

In exceptional original condition and having a most fabulous colour and natural patina.

Of small practical proportions, the chest is in absolutely superb original condition with no repairs or restoration and no significant dings, dents or marks. There are some old worm holes underneath the chest but these are long since treated and dead and we guarantee the chest to be worm free. The stump feet are original also, hexagonal and squat

The whole of superb colour and patination, the walnut beautifully matched throughout and in excellent condition. The triple serpentine top crossbanded to front and sides and the canted corners spreading into wide faced knees and shaped apron - all lovely and desirable details on a piece of this period.

Dutch/low countries, this is a very fine example indeed of a late 18th Century chest.

You need to see and touch this cabinet to appreciate just how beautiful and fine it is - viewings welcome and our full refund guarantee is there to give you total peace of mind.

Dimensions are : 31 inches high, 37 inches wide at feet and 34.5 inches wide at top. 20.5 inches deep The internal heights of the drawers - top 4 inches, second 4.5 inches, third 5 inches and bottom cushion drawer 6 inches.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
