Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1860s.
Two secret drawers reveal a well-fitted jewellery drawer to the base and a wonderful tray of implements above, with a silver vinaigrette, gold toothpick plus many other items.

Within the lid is a fine mirror and superb gilt-tooled linings and matching leather pouch. The hinges; keeps and lockplates etc are finely engraved and gilded. A remarkable, possibly unique fitted Dressing Case of the very finest quality. The silver is all hallmarked for London 1865, whilst the cartouche to the lid is engraved with the date 28th November 1866. (Who was F. E. Edwards?) 14ins wide; 10ins high; 11ins deep.
