Description

A truly superb mid-19th century Lady's fitted DRESSING CASE in fine and original condition.

The beautifully figured burr walnut case is inlaid and edged with engraved brass and ebony and opens to reveal the full set of 13 silver-topped bottles and jars, all perfect and all fully hallmarked. Two secret drawers reveal a well-fitted jewellery drawer to the base and a wonderful tray of implements above, with a silver vinaigrette, gold toothpick plus many other items.

Within the lid is a fine mirror and superb gilt-tooled linings and matching leather pouch. The hinges; keeps and lockplates etc are finely engraved and gilded. A remarkable, possibly unique fitted Dressing Case of the very finest quality. The silver is all hallmarked for London 1865, whilst the cartouche to the lid is engraved with the date 28th November 1866. (Who was F. E. Edwards?) 14ins wide; 10ins high; 11ins deep.
