Description

Superb late 19th.c. walnut and leather settle c.1880. Retaining the extraordinary original embossed leather covers to the backrest and seat, each featuring three repeats of a Classical or Renaissance style grotesque design of a winged female head, the body transforming into foliage. Quality frame in walnut, the backrest with carved lion’s head tops and a gallery of small finely turned balusters. Scrolling acanthus leaf detail to the arms, crisply turned and fluted legs to front and rear joined with moulded stretchers and raised on turned feet. Excellent condition with only minor wear to the leather and retaining the original brass studs. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
