Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this interesting and well carved Meiji period (1868-1912) Ivory Okimono depicting a group of characters upon a bridge, the three central elder Scholar type characters are carved in very fine detail throughout, the character to the left resembles Ebisu the lucky god of fishermen, and points to a young child kneeling to secure a Minogame, meanwhile the other two elders appear to applaud the goings on and are clearly very happy, the last character is carrying what appears to be a large rolled scroll upon his back , beneath the arched wooden bridge turtles and fish can be seen swimming through a well carved swirling stream , this charming fun Okimono is nicely signed to the underside in a Mother of Pearl tablet that translates to read '' Takaaki'', a recorded Meiji period carver, the group stands upon its original carved Hardwood base with an old retailers label to the underside .
