Japanese Edo Period Carved Wood Netsuke - Wolf Upon A Crab - Masatada

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this finely carved wooden Edo period (1615 - 1868) Netsuke circa 1800, the artist Masatada has captured a hungry Wolf in the process of securing a Crab, that he has pinned to the floor using both front paws, the artist has captured the Wolf in great detail, his rib cage exposed, his huge mouthfull of teeth open in anticipation of the upcoming feast, his bulging eyes inlaid to great effect, the Crustacean finely detailed to the underside with the artist signature captured beneath a rear paw, this humorous and tactile Netsuke bears an old collectors label and forms part of a long standing private UK collection.
