In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
It is painted a burnt red / orange with a blue lid and a wonderful naive design with 'Anno 1835' painted on the front. Chests like this were often given to commemrate a marriage, hence why they were dated.
It is in good condition and is generally clean and tidy inside and out. The hinges are strong and it has been cleaned and given a smooth waxed finish. There is an old split across the lid and some old woodworm holes around the box but no other major damages and it is strong and sturdy. It has a wonderful aged patina and displays beautifully.
