1909 Kays Triumph Silver Pocket Watch with Albert

William Kay set up Kays of Worcester in 1890. Customers bought items from handbills in a folder and initially the goods on offer were limited to jewellery, watches, clocks and household items. Eventually William’s son Jack took over the running of the business. The company continued to expand and trade successfully, becoming one of Worcester’s largest employers. 

This particular watch has a Buren key-wound movement, made for Kays, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has some scratching.

The watch measures 55mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London (import mark), 1909 with a maker's mark for William Kilbourne Kay (Kay & Co Ltd). The case is in lovely condition and the engine turned detail to the back is still nice and crisp.

The later acrylic lens is in good condition.

The signed white enamel dial has a hairline crack just above the sub seconds dial, and a nibble to the very edge but this is hidden by the bezel.

The watch comes with a double silver albert, with each chain measuring 26cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. The chain weighs 48.8g.

The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
