Antique Silver Waltham Half Hunter Pocket Watch

An antique silver Waltham half hunter pocket watch with chain.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, Traveler grade, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number number 17,514,273 dates it back to 1908. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover upon which is a 1913 inscription to W H Holdsworth from Eliot Lewis and Herbert D Cohen (believed to be of Lewis's department store in Manchester).

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for Birmingham 1912, with a case maker's mark for the Dennison Watch Case Company, a prolific supplier of cases to various watch manufacturers. The front of the case has blue enamel filled Roman numerals around a small lens. The case is in good condition for its age, just some fairly gentle unevenness to the case back. There is a small cartouche to the back with the initials WHH.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens. Original glass lenses were often replaced with acrylic when they broke as it is a much more durable material. The signed dial is in good condition.

The watch comes with a 1924 double silver albert with each chain measuring 19cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. Each of the links has the lion passant silver mark. There is also a 1925 silver fob.

The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
