Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French clock garniture set traditionally consists of a central mantel clock accompanied by two matching side pieces, typically candelabra or decorative vases. Originating in eighteenth-century France, these sets were designed as cohesive decorative suites for display on fireplace mantels and console tables.

Louis XVI clock garnitures were predominantly crafted from gilt bronze, also known as ormolu, featuring fire-gilded mercurial finishes. The clock dials were usually made of white enamelled copper, housed within finely chased cast bronze cases.

Authentic pieces feature detailed hand-chasing, heavy cast bronze construction, and makers marks stamped on the movement backplate, such as those from noted makers like Japy Freres. Additionally, original gilding exhibits subtle wear pattern variations and age-appropriate patination on unexposed surfaces.

To style a gilt bronze garniture set in a contemporary space, place the ensemble along a minimalist marble mantelpiece or modern dark wood sideboard. Balancing the elaborate gilded detail against neutral walls or simple backdrop textures creates a focused historical contrast.

Preserve gilt bronze by dusting gently with a soft, natural-bristle brush or dry microfibre cloth without applying chemical abrasives or metal polishes. Moisture must be avoided to prevent oxidisation, and professional horological conservation is recommended for movement maintenance.
