Regency Mahogany Side Table, in the Manner of Gillow of Lancaster

19th century
Description

Regency mahogany sidetable, in the manner of Gillow of Lancaster

Here we have to offer you, a very elegant Regency mahogany side-table.

The Regency mahogany table, is fitted 3 mahogany lined drawers, that have applied geometric mouldings and brass ring handles.

The table has wonderful turned mahogany tapering legs to each corner, that end on the original brass cup castors.

It is very much in the style of Gillows of Lancaster, and whilst not having any makers stamps, it should be attributed to have come from their workshops.

Originally, this Regency table would have been used as a dressing table or washstand, for use in a bedroom of an important home.

It is a very versatile piece of Regency furniture, as it can be used in so situations in the home.

As it is quite narrow it would make a really good and practical hall-table, especially as it is fitted drawers.

It’s original use as a dressing table, could also be utilised again, as well as being a writing table or even a serving table for the dining room.

Imagine the joy to the eye, the ownership of this would bring you. It would be something much admired by your family and friends, also looking fantastic in your home.

This excellent table would have been made in the early part of the 19thc.,when Great Britain was still celebrating the Battle of Trafalgar, a time when the first Indian restaurant was opened in London by Sake Dean Mahomet, and Humphrey Davey named Chlorine.

Imagine the original owner may well have sat at this table, and discussed Napoleon’s armies conquests and defeats, while readying herself for what the day may bring
