M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1750s.
The front leg with well-carved shell and 'C' scroll detail . The shaped arms and back supported by broad shaped lumbar splats and architecturally inspired turned column uprights.

The veneered edge balloon-shaped seat retaining it's original drop-in seat with original period needle-work cover. Minor wear to stitching. The needlework probably an earlier late C17th/early C18th fragment.

Constructed in heavy , dense Cuban mahogany which has achieved a rich , deep original patina and colour.
In good original condition with only minor historic repairs. The inside of the front frame with an 'estate-made' iron strengthening bracket . In strong , stable and usable condition.
Probably Irish.
