Hobson May Collection has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The side panels are equally well painted with male and female figures. The front panel and returns are edged with a gold painted foliate border. There are hinges to the top, maybe to fix if fully extended, these fold to the back and do not need to be used. The condition is good, there are a couple of areas of wear and minor chips - these can be seen in the photos and are not detrimental to the appearance of this beautiful screen, the colours are good and it stands well with no wobbles. This is a very unusual and decorative firescreen and would be a striking addition to any interior.
