Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

An absolutely superb, Edwardian, silver and blue glass Sugar Sifter of superior quality. The silver frame is beautifully designed. The lid is exquisitely fret in a particularly attractive design and there is a lovely finial on the top. This item is rare as it has an unusual locking lid, that works perfectly. The body of the sifter has open silver wire work and the lovely blue liner is visible, making this item very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It stands on a circular base, is nice and level and a good heavy weight. Hallmarks are clearly visible on both the base and on the lid, for the London Assay Office with a date mark for 1906 and maker''s mark for the silversmiths: The Haseler Brothers. Retailer''s marks are also clear under the lid for the renowned Mappin & Webb Sheffield & London.
