As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this simply breath taking carved ivory group depicting Bears and an Eagle, the leading Meiji period master carver Okada Tomokazu (1868-1912) has captured the moment when an adult Bear is compelled to protect its cub from an attacking Eagle, the Bear pinning the Eagle to the ground and clearly about to win this battle of nature, the artist has carved the hair, feathers, claws and facial expressions to an exceptional standard, in fact as life like as you could ever imagine, the eyes inlaid in pale amber or mother of pearl with dark pupils, the group sits upon a Meiji period polished Hardwood stand and is artist signed to the underside, an exceptional exhibition quality carving that would enhance any worldwide collection.
