Rare William IV Mahogany and Leather Window Seat After John Taylor

A very rare and superb quality 19th Century late William IV period window seat after a design by John Taylor circa 1830-1840.

Having urn-shaped carved mahogany arm supports with a deep buttoned hand-dyed leather upholstered cushion seat supported by a panelled front rail and raised on ring turned mahogany legs terminating on its original brass cup castors. This window seat is also able to stand freely within the room as the back is fully finished.

This extremely rare window seat is after a design by John Taylor who worked in 16 Bedford Court, Covent Garden between 1821-1824. Taylor previously designed for the prestigious firm Oakley of Old Bond Street and published the Upholsterers and Cabinet Makers Pocket Assistant in 1825 which presaged the styles of the later years up until the 1850’s.

A similarly designed sofa can be seen in the Ackermann’s Regency Furniture & Interiors book by Pauline Agius page 132 plate 116.

This 19th-century window seat in excellent original condition having been restored using traditional methods and reupholstered in a hand-dyed leather.
