Dachluhr Biedermeier Vienna Regulator Wall Clock - Lehrner in Kaschau

Description

A fine quality true Vienna regulator wall clock made by Johannes Lehrner in Kaschau, circa 1835.

Johannes Lehrner in Kaschau (Upper Hungary): Master 1813, came from Griserdorf in Austria, manufactured between 1820 and 1840 precision clocks with long gear duration and glass-encapsulated works and special designs.

The beautifully made six light, roof top design, flame mahogany case with contrasting boxwood stringing throughout and flame mahogany backboard.

The fully restored 8 day weight driven movement of the finest quality, with high quality gear work, deadbeat escapement and slide beat adjustment.

The polished steel rod pendulum with a brass backed knife edged polished brass bob, ornate spoked pulley, polished cylindrical brass weight and silvered brass beat plate to the backboard.

The one piece 7 inch diameter white porcelain dial, signed to the centre Lehrner Kaschau, with Roman numerals chapter ring, enclosed within a fine quality cast brass engine turned bezel with detailed decoration. Finely fretted blued steel hands, of beetle and poker design.

A beautifully made clock of elegant and restrained proportions typical of the Dachluhr / early Biedermeier period, in fine original condition.

This type of Viennese regulator wall clock were entirely hand made by a time served master clockmaker and were only made for the most discerning customers and took many months to complete individually.

Johannes Lehrner in Kaschau 1813 master ( example of work in the Technical Museum Kaschau), 1857 owner of the house and workshop in the III. District, Fabrikengasse 318.

In 1842 he received at the first Hungarian trade exhibition in Pesth a bronze medal for a month duration clock. Between 1820 and 1830 he built precision clocks with long gear duration and glass encapsulated works.

All of our clocks have been sympathetically restored and have been expertly vetted for originality and good working order. All clocks purchased from us are guaranteed for two years.

All of our clock movements are restored by our horologist who works exclusively for us.

Our horologist is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. He was the recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Company of Clockmakers Bronze Medal.
