Description

A Chinese bronze joss stick holder, c. 1600. Ming Dynasty. Cast as a recumbent deer, it’s mouth partially opened, to reveal its folded tongue, presumably to hold a joss stick. The body impressed all over, with groups of three circles. Having separate silvered antlers.

Length - 15.5 cm, 6 1/8”.

Height - 9 cm, 3 1/2”.

Width - 7.5 m, 3”.

Condition - Antlers probably a replacement. Wear to patina.
