Early 18th Century George I Period Small Walnut Antique Bureau

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Allan Hares Antiques

Early 18th century George I period small walnut antique bureau of unusually small scale standing on four turned bun feet. This is a charming bureau which really shows off the pre-mahogany era of furniture making very well. It has feather banding around the edge, the burr walnut is bookmatched (or quarter cut) so the grain pattern is symmetrical. The drawer surrounds have the lovely double moulding that predates cock beading. There is a not very secret recessed well in side the desk section. This bureau has a wonderful patina and the colour is a very nice warm honey. These photographs show the bureau as it came in, it will look wonderful when our restorers have finished with it, please ask about restoration options.
