Loveday Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The mahogany top is veneered in a manner called “sunburst” where each segment of veneer is shaped and tapered towards the centre of the table. The sunburst veneer match is by far the most beautiful and expensive of all veneer matches which was only used on fine quality furniture as much of the expensive mahogany veneer is wasted due to the tapering effect.

The border of the table is inlaid with the rare and exotic wood Coromandel which is retained with an ebony stringing surround. Coromandel is a timber from South East Asia and Sir Lanka (Ceylon) which has been logged to extinction over the last 2 to 3 hundred years and is no longer available for new work in any quantity.

The edge having a carved bobbin turned mould which is replicated on the splay legs to the base.
Raised over an elegant turned column base and four outswept splayed legs each having the bobbin carved relief to the edges terminating on original ornate brass castors.

This superb quality table of eminence size is in excellent condition with a stunning mellow faded mahogany colour.
