Description

Very Large Japy Freres Gilt Brass Rococo Clock Set.

~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled & working ~~

A stunning and very large Rococo clock set, gilded brass in beautiful original, clean and bright condition. The movement is by the famous maker Japy Freres and has the maker's 'Grande Medaille D'Honneur' mark on the movement backplate. The styling is classic Rococo; flamboyant scrolls, foliage, acanthus leaves and shell motives are beautifully modelled. Below the dial are musical motifs, these are also repeated on the candelabra bases. Candelabra stand over 30" in height and are complete with the original snuffers. Each has 5 branches, modelled as twirling foliage and 'C' scrolls.

The dial is enamel on copper, cream background with blue lettering. It is complete with the original finely fretted gilt brass hands and the Rococo bezel is fitted with convex glass.

The French movement is by Japy Freres and is of very high quality. Our clockmaker has completely overhauled the movement and tested it to ensure trouble free running. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running.

Condition of the case is excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is some very minor wear to the original gilding in places. The dial is also in excellent condition, some very small chips / wear around the winding holes and the lettering is slightly faded.

Complete with original pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
