C19th Italian 'Grand Tour' souvenir micro-mosaic panel paperweight set on a pale onyx marble base.

Smart figured onyx cartouche shaped paperweight with a channeled edge. The centre set with a raised oval micro-mosaic panel set in a black marble border.

The finely-made panel depicting the Roman Forum with the ruins of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in the foreground.

High quality items such as this were made in the workshops of the Roman craftsmen to sell to wealthy tourists as souvenirs of their visit to the Eternal City.

In excellent condition with no losses, damage or repairs.
