Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The cross banded fall opens down & is supported by two pull out loafers. The writing section inside is stunning with a stepped interior of shaped drawers, pigeon holes & a central cupboard. The tooled leather writing surface looks like it could be original & has a wonderful colour. All the drawers have original locks, brass handles & fine dovetails. It sits on bracket feet & it separates into two pieces for easy transportation. This bureau bookcase has lovely small proportions, plus a great colour & patina. I just need to take another look at it, because I can’t work out yet if it’s 19th or 18th century.
