Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late nineteenth century, decanter trolleys and carriages were developed as novelty serving pieces for formal dining rooms and smoking rooms. Designed to move spirits smoothly across dining tables or sideboards, these pieces allowed hosts to serve guests without lifting heavy individual bottles.

These items typically feature a silver-plated or solid sterling silver frame mounted on functional spoked wheels. The decanters themselves were crafted from heavy lead crystal or blown glass, often fitted with ground glass stoppers to preserve spirits.

Authentic pieces carry stamped makers marks or hallmarks associated with Mappin Brothers, often located on the silver rim or underside of the trolley frame. Period construction shows precise joinery on the wheels, age-appropriate silver wear, and hand-ground stopper joints.

A silver decanter carriage makes a striking centrepiece on a mahogany sideboard, home bar cart, or executive desk. Pairing the metallic sheen of the silver with dark timber surfaces creates a sophisticated contrast in traditional or modern interiors.

Clean silver-plated frames gently with a soft cotton cloth and mild silver polish to prevent removing the silver layer. Glass decanters should be hand-washed with lukewarm water and warm vinegar or specialised cleaning beads to remove internal clouding.
