Early French Rococo Porcelain Boudoir Clock, Silk Suspension Movement

19th century
Description

~ French - Circa 1850 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A beautiful, early original antique French porcelain clock. It is of Rococo design, decorated in the style of Sèvres with Bleu Céleste ground and the most charming painted decoration of flowers and a couple in a country setting. It is in the most remarkable condition with the majority of the overglaze gilt decation in fine condition. The clockmaker Silvant is listed as working in Paris in Tardy*. There is an impressed mark "Le" into the underside of the porcelain body.

The dial is enamel on copper (porcelain on copper) and is complete with original fine Breguet hands.

The French movement is by Silvant of Paris and is a small early version of the Pendule de Paris movement with silk suspension. The clockmakers make is inscribed on the backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell.

Condition of the case is excellent with no damage, just some very slight wear on the edges and where the clock sits on the base. Most of the over glaze gilt decoration is in fine condition with only slight rubbing The dial has been restored in the past.

Clockmaker's mark on the movement backplate and the dial
