Victorian Mahogany 4 Door Sideboard

19th century
Description

Victorian mahogany 4 door sideboard

The King Somborne Sideboard

Here we have this Victorian mahogany sideboard.

This magnificent sideboard is of the 4 door version. This is the best and most desirable design.

As the name implies, the sideboard is fitted 4 cupboard doors, that open to reveal storage space behind the central cupboard doors.

The right hand cupboard opens to reveal a sliding section to take bottles, and a shelf.

To the left hand cupboard there are 2 sliding shelves.

Along the top, are 3 flame mahogany drawers running above the cupboards, of concave shape and with superb carvings to each.

The doors with flame mahogany panels.

For ease of movement, the top section that is fitted with drawers, lifts off leaving the base section in one piece.

This type of sideboards are very useful for the home, as no space is wasted, and so it has fantastic capacity.

When this Victorian sideboard was first made, Queen Victoria was on the throne of the United Kingdom, and Britain was the major power in the world. The Crimea War had just finished, The Second Opium War was about to start and Charles Dickens was about to publish Great Expectations. Imagine the times and events this sideboard has seen in its life. Not only the surviving the Worlds major conflicts of the 20thc., but the invention of the combustion engine, mans’ first flight, mans’ landing on the moon and the modern digital era.
