Satinwood Inlaid Commode by Edwards and Roberts

1900 - 1920
Description

A wonderful Sheraton revival satinwood commode, exhibition quality and manufactured by one of Londons most prestigious firms - Edwards and Roberts. The quality of manufacture is superb and the whole cabinet is extremely pleasing to the eye.

Serpentine in shape with 4 doors which open to reveal shelves inside (keys present). Lovely inlaid work and black line stringing. The satinwood itself has a wonderful iridescence and is of the highest quality.

A striking piece of fine Edwardian furniture having been sympathetically restored in excellent condition for the home.

Edwards & Roberts was founded in 1845, and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Their business also involved retailing, adapting and restoring the finest antique furniture and there are many examples of their earlier furniture with later embellishments bearing their stamp. Edwards & Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
