As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality Edo period (1615-1868) Japanese Ivory Netsuke depicting a standing Kitsune ( fox disguised as a priest ) wrapped in his cloak , In Japanese folklore, the fox (kitsune) can be a shape-shifter, often taking the guise of a priest or monk. If he gets drunk or careless his tail shows and gives him away, a great fun subject and nice addition to your Japanese collection.
