Stunning Revolving Butter Dish by Martin Hall and Co. C.1880.

Description

A wonderful quality revolving butter dish with the domed top beautifully engraved with floral and foliate garlands, quite stunning.

The dish stands on four highly decorative figural legs with a Ram's head at the top of all four and standing on hoof feet. Between these legs there are cast continuous garlands ... exceptional.

The handles each side are used to easily roll back the top to reveal a removable trivet, the butter would sit on top and crushed ice on the underside top keep the butter chilled.

The two pins attached to the chains keep the lid attached to the base and can be removed to dismantle for easier cleaning.

The underside has a full mark for the well renowned silversmith, Martin Hall and Co, dating to c.1880, Victorian in era.

Elegant and very usable, excellent condition, measuring 8 3/4" handle to handle and 5 1/4" deep x 5" tall.
