Lancaster Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
We have reason to think this may be a German manufacturer.

The images has been lightened to try and show the huge amount of decoration, in reality it is a rich dark colour and the details are sharp and clear.
On the front of the letter holder is a classical scene of what could be Roman soldiers with a lot of action with excellent details of costumes etc. At the top of the letter rack are what appears to be two nymphs resting among tree branches and flowers.

The pocket is decorated with five Corinthian Pillars inside and one either side. A huge amount of work has gone into this unusual item. It is heavy and very well made.
It measures 35cm at the widest part and 34 in total in length; the letter holder is 22.5cm wide and 13cm in depth.
Postage within the mainland UK is included in the price, but for remote parts and abroad, please contact us for a quote for delivery.
