Description

Very nice early Georgian silver loving cup with gilt wash interior and later embossed and engraved decoration. One side has an engraved cartouche with the monogram J and S entwined with "Feast Of Saint Joseph" engraved around them. Hallmarked for London 1748. The makers initials are partly obscured by the embossing but I think they may well be that of Philip Shaw.

It measures 12cm (4 3/4") high, 16cm (6 1/4") wide across the handles and 9.5cm (3 3/4") rim to rim. It weighs 295g/9.5ozt. Condition is very good with no damage or repairs and light surface wear.
