An unusual and beautifully inscribed solid brass TOBACCO or SNUFF BOX of curved form, with a shaped hinged lid, the interior tin-lined.

Of particular interest is the dated inscription: "Robert Wittle, Preesale, 1864". Heavy quality and very tactile! 3ins x 2.25ins (7.65 x 5.75cms)

***Preesall is a small town overlooking the river Wyre on the extreme west coast of Lancashire. It was manetioned in the Doomsday Book (written in 1086) and its population in 2001 was 5314.
