A Quality 19thc Bronze Oil Lamp

Description

A good quality 19thC bronze oil lamp of fine patination. The finial depicting Silenus 'god of drunkenness', the base decorated with a leafy foliage and Egyptian heads. The finial is missing an arm but other than that the condition is very good. This oil lamp is attributed to Thomas messenger and sons and a nearly identical example was offered for sale at Sotheby's Important English Furniture in 2004 and can be found in their archive.
