Very Rare Cold Painted Bronze Novelty Mechanical Bell - Cat and Mouse C.1900

Description

A once in a lifetime find, having been a dealer for 25 years, I have never come across one.

The subject is what makes it particularly sought-after, being a cat breaking though a woven basket with his paws over the edge, clearly trying to catch the mouse at the front. It is this little mouse that is pressed downwards and rings the mechanical bell.

A real gem, in working order and in excellent condition measuring 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" tall. Late Victorian or early Edwardian in era, dating to c.1900.
