An antique pocket watch from H White & Co, London.

The watch has a stem-winding ¾ plate movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed with the name H White & Co, 63 Cheapside London, and it is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

Harry White was listed as being both a watch and chronometer maker. In 1899, following an Extraordinary General Meeting, it was agreed that the company would be wound up and Harry White was appointed liquidator.

However, it seems the company were trading in the 1910s because in 1913, records exist where H White & Co were one of several companies supplying chronometers for time trials at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, with a view to supplying chronometers for the Board of Admiralty.

The watch itself measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 14ct gold plated and was originally guaranteed for 20 years. The case has some unevenness to the back, and some surface marks, but overall acceptable for a piece from the 1910s.

The watch glass has light marks.

The signed dial is in lovely condition with pin-set blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
